Gemma Crane
Gemma trained as an actor at Bretton Hall College, University of Leeds, after studying
sciences at A-Level. She has extensive experience in educational theatre, in particular
as a performer for 'Floating Point Science Theatre', touring in both the UK and China
with various science theatre productions, which enhance primary science learning
through physical theatre, mime, music and rhyme. She has also performed at a
number of science festivals including Edinburgh and Birmingham. Using this same
formula she has led a number of student and teacher workshops on creating science
theatre.
Gemma has worked with primary and secondary school children on a variety of
Theatre in Education projects with several UK based theatre companies, with the aim
of using drama to bring about discussion on social issues such as drugs education,
personal safety, suicide and domestic violence.
Other workshop projects have included working with the over 50s at the West
Yorkshire Playhouse, working with young people in pupil referral units in Oxfordshire
and being part of the nationwide Shakespeare Schools Festival for 3 years.
Recently Gemma formed her own theatre company - Cre8 Theatre that intends to
bring creativity to the curriculum by using drama to enhance more traditionally
desk-based subjects. Through Cre8 she is also working with local councils on a
number of projects utilising her drama and science theatre skills and experience.
