Ray Mathias

I am a communications professional and plant biologist. I have successfully moved from a scientific career, with a good record of publications and an international reputation, to establish myself as a successful practitioner in public relations, media management, training, and design and delivery of public engagement activities. I combine excellent judgement and analytical skills with absolute reliability (especially under pressure), good interpersonal skills and a very broad scientific and transferable skills base. Since establishing my consultancy in January 2006 my clients include PPARC, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, The Environment Agency, The Institute for Animal Health and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. Previously, I was for 10 years Head of the Science Communication and Education Department at the John Innes Centre and before that an active research scientist at the John Innes Centre, Norwich and the Plant Breeding Institute, Cambridge.
